Pedaling To Build Gardens

Besides cycling, my other passion is growing my own food, and I’m combining both interests in an event that happens next weekend. On Saturday, May 10, I’ll be riding in Streets + Beets, the annual fundraiser for Alleycat Acres.

And yep, I’m looking for donations to put some wind beneath my wheels.SBSquareWeb-52be7b43735be

Streets + Beets supports operations on all three of Alleycat’s Seattle farms and enables them to continue converting vacant spaces into community gathering places. Alleycat is entirely volunteer powered and S+B ensures that no one ever has to pay for access to the healthy food grown on site. S + B is the organization’s only fundraiser.

I’ve watched Alleycat grow into operating three farms in Central Seattle and Beacon Hill, and love what they do. A farm manager direct the efforts of volunteers. They take home produce after they work. Extra food goes to community partners like the Rainier Valley Food Bank. The produce, supplies, and many of the volunteers are transported to and from the farms by bicycle.

These folks are making a difference, and you can too, by supporting them with a small donation.

Visit my Crowdrise donation page to contribute. Minimum is $10, about the cost of picking up the tab for coffee with a friend. Or you could seek me out and give me cash or a check (payable to Sustainable Seattle/Alleycat Acres), which I’ll take with me to the event. Any amount is appreciated.

Thanks for helping — together, we can’t be beet!
