Join Me For Streets + Beets
Want to ride your bike to raise money to help city folks grow some food? Sounds like fun to me — I’m in!
Streets + Beets is the event, happening on Saturday, May 10. They’ve concocted an interesting 65-mile route that goes from urban to suburbs to farmland and back again.
It’s the annual fundraiser for Alleycat Acres, the plucky nonprofit that has three urban farm collectives — 2 in the Central District and 1 on Beacon Hill. The alleycatters run their farms completely with volunteer labor, share their produce with whomever helps out, and deliver the rest–by bike–to needy organizations.
Join me on the ride! It’s always fun to do events with people. You can register for the ride, or just buy a ticket for the after-party. Either one is $25, and if you ride, they ask that you raise at least $100.
If you agree with me that this event and unique organization deserves support, please make a donation on my fundraising page.
The beet seed packet in the spokes was pretty easy. Now I just need to figure out how to attach beets to my helmet…
