Get in Costume, Ride the Boneshaker Bike Fest, Oct. 26 in LaConner
My Ronald Reagan mask is way out of date, and I’m not sure how I’d bicycle if I wore my big foam Hulk hands. But I bet the costumes will be creative at the Boneshaker Bicycle Festival, coming up this weekend in LaConner.
Riding the Skagit Valley is often done in the early spring to check out the tulips, but this will give cyclists an opportunity to see what those fields and towns look like at harvest time.
There seems to be something for everyone in this festival, so bring the kids and even your occasional-cyclist friends.
Check out the cleverly named routes:
- Casper’s Little Ghost – 3.5 miles
- The Scary-Go-Round Cemetery Ride – 8 miles
- Dust Devils – 21 miles
- Crossing the Abyss – 22 miles
- Zombie Loop – 20 miles
- What is Lurking Around the Next Bend? – 21 miles
- Black Forest to the Sea Route – 25 miles
Heck, try a couple of them!
The event, presented by the town of LaConner and other sponsors, benefits the Bicycle Alliance of Washington, the LaConner Boys & Girls Club, Skagitonians to Protect Farmland, and the LaConner Sunrise Food Bank. Such a lineup of worthy organizations!
And it wouldn’t be a festival without lots of fun stuff to do before and after biking. You can visit vendors and exhibits all day, take part in a raffle, enter a costume contest (hmm, maybe a zombie farmer?), decorate your bike, or enjoy the special guest speakers and live music.
