Anacortes With John

We had a great afternoon touring around Anacortes last weekend with John Pope, board member of the Bicycle Alliance of Washington (just renamed Washington Bikes).

This city of 15,000 is a lot more than the gateway to the San Juans, and John showed us the sights and best bikeways. He should know — he’s working with Washington Bikes on our state’s routes for the U.S. Bicycle Route System.

Next time you’re up that way, spend some time wheeling around the quiet, scenic streets of Anacortes.

Downtown and Marina

Get a great view of the Anacortes marina and downtown after climbing the short hill to Cap Sante Park.

Cap Sante Park

Incredible views of Fidalgo Bay, nearly 360 degrees, can be seen from atop the smooth rockpile on the lookout at Cap Sante Park.

Causland Park

In-town bike routes go by Causland Park, a whimsical symphony of stone created by one man, WWI Veteran Louis Lepage, in the 1920s.
